Arlene Helen Labre

Arlene Helen Labre, 91, Powers, passed away on Friday August 27, 2010 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility. She was born in Wilson, MI on April 9, 1919, the daughter of the late Jesse and Exena (Nault) Bellefeuil. Arlene grew up and worked on the Bellefeuil farm, and attended school in Wilson.
On April 17, 1940 she married the late Philip Labre at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding and together raised their three sons and owned and operated Labre's Store in Spalding, a combination grocery and appliance store for approximately 40 years. Following Philip's retirement, Arlene continued working in the store for her son: P. Leo and later the Fazer family. Philip and Arlene enjoyed many travels during their retirement. They made maple syrup and entertained many family gatherings both at their family camp and at their home in Spalding.
Arlene's hobbies included bowling, sewing, quilting, gardening, hosting and attending many family functions. She was a long serving member of the St. Anne's Society of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Spalding. Arlene had a natural talent for gardening, especially her extraordinary flowers. She also had a great affection for birds.
Arlene is survived by her two sons: P. Leo (Joyce) and Thomas (Amy) Labre both of Spalding, two brothers: Norbert (Casarina) Bellefeuil of Wilson and Raymond (Mary Jane) Bellefeuil of Escanaba, one sister: June (Edmund) Bouty of Spalding, her daughter-in-law: JoAnne Labre of Racine, WI, fourteen grandchildren: Tina Labre of Milwaukee, WI, Lora (Doug) Krystowiack of Milwaukee, WI, Kenneth (Sau Ching) Labre of Greendale, WI, Philip (Dawn) Labre of Escanaba, Sandra (Brett) Borucki of Spalding, Holly (Mark) Russell of Bark River, Todd (Kristen Charles) Labre of Hermansville, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Labre of South Milwaukee, WI, Christopher (Jennifer) Labre of Menominee, MI, Jessica (Brian) Faught of Kingsford, Maggie Jean Sandborn, Annalisa Sandborn, Katie Derouin and Samantha Oslund all of Escanaba, thirty great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Philip in 1993, her son John E. Labre of Racine, WI on April 7, 2009, one grandson: Ronald in April of 1984, two sisters: Mae (James) Sloan of Pontiac, MI and Joyce (Willard) Bero of Escanaba and three brothers: Harvey (Cathleen) Bellefeuil of Wilson, Kenneth Bellefeuil of Pontiac, MI and William Bellefeuil also of Pontiac, MI.
Friends may call from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday August 31, 2010 at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding with the St. Anne's Society reciting the rosary at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following visitation at 4:00 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday at the church with Fr. Michael Vichich officiating. A luncheon will follow Mass in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Spalding Township Cemetery.
