  • "I was so very sad to hear about Barbara’s death! Although circumstances had prevented us from seeing one another in a very, very long while, I was always comforted knowing she was “up there” in Wilson, Michigan, holding down the fort…in a place where I have many happy memories! I still possess two books that Barbara gave me many years ago…Hal Borland’s “Twelve Moons of the Year” and “Wintering” by Diana Kappel-Smith…both deeply treasured. We shared a love of the outdoors and the natural world. In one of these books, Barbara wrote, “Thank you for all your time, effort, patience, and most of all your friendship”. Well, Barbara, it was a deep honor and privilege to be considered your friend and even though you are gone, the memories of you and all our shared experiences continue to remain close to my heart. Rest in eternal peace, dear friend. My deepest condolences to Jim and to her children Allen, Tim, Dorothy and Larrie, at the loss of wife and mother. My heart to all your hearts."
