Donald (Don) Clarence Gearhart, age 91, passed away peacefully in his Hermansville home with family on January 21, 2026. Don was born on November 4,1934, in Howell Michigan to the late Mary and Joseph Gearhart. He was a 1953 Howell High School graduate. He went on to work several different factory jobs and did farming in and around Howell, Michigan.
In 1955 Don married his beautiful wife of 70 years: Gwen Irene (Kinsey) Gearhart at Wrights Corner Church of God in Howell Michigan. They eventually moved with their four boys to the UP of Michigan and enjoyed farming. They started FaDaMare Farms and Don also drove the school bus. Don then went on to be a shipping supervisor at Gilbert and Bennett in Carney, Michigan which eventually became Superior Cedar Products.
Don was very involved in the Carney Free Church in Carney, Michigan. He loved making wood projects, as a matter of fact all of Don's walking canes were made by him using horse hames for the handles off of horse collars like the one in his obituary picture. He also made many other wood items and would always make extra to donate to several non-profit organizations for bucket raffles and such. Don also enjoyed hunting, gardening, and golfing and teaching his grandchildren to golf. Don Loved his Lions Football (every Sunday) and his Tigers Baseball. He also loved watching his grandchildren play sports.
In addition to his parents Don is proceeded in death by his three brothers, two sisters, one grandson: Shane Gearhart and one granddaughter: Jolene Strouse.
In addition to his wife Gwen Irene Gearhart he is survived by four sons plus one they raised. Lyle (Kathy) Bob (Sue) Ralph and Stan (Roseanna). Plus, one Ken Stuart (Karen). Grandchildren: Michelle, Sonja, Lacey, Andrew, Nicole, Josaf, Felisia (Izzi) Codi, Lance, Heather (Vike), Jonathan (Groleau). Brian (Murray), Chris (Murray), Kathy (Murray), Jackie ( Murray), Pauline (Murray), Rick (Stewart) and Brian (Stewart), as well as several great-grandchildren.
At the end of the day, it was a race to the finish line with Don and Bob Gearhart. Don won and we think we know why! He went to hold the door and walk hand and hand with Bob to show him the way.
There will be a celebration of life for Don Gearhart in the spring. Date to be determined!
The Family would like to thank the Hermansville Fire Department for all their assistance in getting Don in the house so he could finish his final days at his home as requested.
The Allo Coolman Funeral Home is assisting the Gearhart family.
