Frank "Farmer" J. Nowack Sr.
, 96, Spalding, passed away on Thursday July 14, 2011 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on April 21, 1915 to the late Franklin and Magdalen (Safranak) Nowack in Spalding. On August 20, 1936 he married the former and late Amy Fezatte at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding.

Farmer was employed by the Powers Spalding/North Central Schools as supervisor of custodial staff and bus driver for 44 years. He was an avid woodworker and gardener and also enjoyed everything to do with the outdoors including hunting, fishing and going to camp. Farmer was a founding member of Normenco Sportsman's Club and the Spalding Township Fire Department where he was an active member from 1956 to 2010. He was also a member of the Powers Spalding Lions Club. Farmer was still making maple syrup each spring until the age of 93.

He is survived by his three sons: Joe (Diane) Nowack of Spalding, Gerald (Jeanette) Nowack of Powers and James (Connie) Nowack of Spalding, eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, six great great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

Farmer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two daughters: Judy Bellefeuil and Jeane Weber, one infant son: John and two grandchildren: Jon and Jennifer.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday July 19, 2011 at Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding with the Spalding Township Fire Department performing a pass and review at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Frank Nowack's life will follow visitation at 6:00 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday at the funeral home with Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Burial will take place in the Spalding Township Cemetery.
