Helen L. Vanlerberghe, 89, Escanaba, passed away on Wednesday May 7, 2014 at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. She was born on July 14, 1924 in Jerseyville, IL, the daughter of the late Harlen and Ethel (Bittman) Turner. Helen married Lloyd Pearson and later married Howard L. Vanlerberghe in Escanaba.
Helen worked in the produce department at Mel & Elmer's and Wally's Grocery in Escanaba. She loved dancing and babysitting for others, especially her own grandchildren.
She is survived by six children: Linda (Jim) McDonough, Shirlee Lancour, Joan (Ross) Rhoads, Jim (Joan) Vanlerberghe, Terry (Judy) Vanlerberghe and Dennis Vanlerberghe, one sister: Dorothy Hensel, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, an infant daughter: Susan, a son: Ronald Vanlerberghe, two sisters: Mildred Bellefeuil and Mary Ann Wheelock and a great-grandson: Brendan Vizineau.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Monday May 12, 2014 at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Escanaba. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Helen L. Vanlerberghe will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. A luncheon will follow services at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Escanaba.
