Jack S. Mortensen

Jack S. Mortensen, 55, Escanaba, passed away on Friday June 29, 2012 at his home with his family by his side following a nine year battle with cancer. He was born on July 2, 1956 in Ironwood, MI, the son of Ruth (Sealy) and the late Bruce Mortensen. In 1983 he married the former Faye Nelson at St. Anne's Parish in Escanaba.
Jack attended grade school in Ironwood and graduated in 1974 from Ironwood High School. He then attended two years at Gogebic Community College and then enrolled at St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN graduating with his P.T. credentials. Jack then interned at OSF St. Francis Hospital where he decided to stay and continue his career because he liked Escanaba and the variety of care given at the local hospital, where he was able to practice and provide patient care for over 33 years.
Jack enjoyed going golfing, but his greatest past time was listening to music, collecting many CD's and going to concerts.
He is survived by his wife: Faye, a nurse at OSF, one daughter: Natalie Mortensen, and his mother, all of Escanaba.
Jack was preceded in death by his father and his son: Eric Mortensen.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 3, 2012 at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Escanaba. A funeral service to celebrate Jack Mortensen's life will follow visitation at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Nathan E. Langager officiating. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
Jack gave much effort to his work helping many people to recover and feel better. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends and the many people he was able to help over the years.
