John A. Sayers

          John A. Sayers, 83, Rapid River, passed away on Sunday July 22, 2018 at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique, MI with his family by his side. He was born on July 1, 1935 in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Harry and Thelma (Neff) Sayers. On January 16, 1954 he married the former Mary Nachtweih at the First United Methodist Church in Wayne, MI. Mary preceded John in death on March 24, 2007 after 53 years of a wonderful and loving marriage.
 
          John loved spending his free time at his family camp with his family, especially his wife: Mary, and all his camp buddies. He also loved being in the outdoors hunting.
 
          He is survived by two children: Greg (Anette) Sayers and Kim (Dan) Shewmaker, one brother: Bob (Dondra) Smith, four grandchildren: Matt and Ben (Kristan) Sayers, Johnathan Shewmaker and Bob Stenfors, four great-grandchildren: Keegan Mathur, Aleah Shewmaker and Riley and Kolby Stenfors, as well as several nieces and nephews.
 
          John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister: Helen Deshais, one brother-in-law: Jim Deshais and a granddaughter: Jane Stenfors.
 
          In keeping with John's wishes, there will be no public services.
 
          The Allo Coolman Funeral Homes are assisting the Sayers family.
