John Carley, 61, Rapid River, was called to join his Angel Family on Saturday, January 18, 2020 of complications due to cancer. He was born on August 6, 1958 in Escanaba, MI to the late Harold and Zephrine (Loritz) Carley and became the family’s special blessing. John will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him; he was a great Son, Brother, Uncle, and Cousin.
John was raised in a family that was in the woods business, he became very fond of the outdoors. As his parents aged and fell ill he found his true calling. From that point, John took the role as family caretaker. He humbly took care of his parents until their passing and then continued by helping his siblings. He loved living summers with his Brother Gib at Foote Lake. He spent his summer days walking from cabin to cabin visiting the extended family at the Lake, hauling firewood, picking up cans, helping set up camp, and anything that needed to be done. He never viewed his work as a chore, but part of his life calling. He was a helper to anyone who crossed his path and had many who thought very highly of him. He gave the absolute best hugs and was always contagiously cheerful. He enjoyed going to the casino with his brothers, sisters, and cousins, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan in a family of Detroit Lion’s Fans! (They loved him anyway!)
John is survived by a Brother: Gilbert Carley, Sisters: Jacqueline Vergote, Carolyn Srock, Theresa (Jim) Gucky and Rosalie Knudsen. Brother -In-Law: Ronald Bales and Sister-In-Law: Suzanne Carley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and special cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother: Stanley, sister: Joyce Bales, and brother: Burton Carley.
His family is hosting a Memorial Luncheon to honor a life well lived on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at the Cooks Township Hall, Cooks, Michigan from 12:30 to 4:30pm. The family encourages everyone to share ‘John’ stories at the social, as we can think of no better way to hold on to the memories of his precious life. Burial will be held at the Cooks Cemetery in the spring.
