John "Jack" L. Kassick

John "Jack" L. Kassick, 94, Escanaba, passed away Monday afternoon August 16, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Escanaba on November 20, 1915, the son of the late Emil and Mae (Dishno) Kassick. On February 28, 1938 he married the former Lillian Derusha at St. Anne's Church in Escanaba. This year they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Jack graduated from St. Joseph's School in 1936. He was a carpenter by trade retiring in 1980 in Chicago. Jack also worked on the Chicago and Northwestern ore docks, Harry's Bar and the Mackinaw Bridge before moving to Chicago. He was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the Army Signal Corp's. Jack was a life member of the Disabled Veterans of Delta County #24 and for 59 years the American Legion Post # 82. He was also a member of St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church for over 60 years.
Jack is survived by his wife, sisters-in-law: Barbara Kassick of Escanaba, Irene Lachapelle of Escanaba, Solange Lachapelle of Appleton, WI, Irene Parins of Escanaba, Therese Gersich of Escanaba and Loretta Connelly of Calumet City, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son: John Kassick Jr., brothers: William and Gordon Kassick, step-father: John Lachapelle, step-brothers: John and Francis Lachapelle and step-sisters: Margaret Fisher, Dorothy Conroy, Millie Connelly, Gertrude Gallager, Joyce Lachapelle and Mable Matson.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday August 19, 2010 at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Escanaba with Delta County Veterans Council rites at 5:15 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday August 20, 2010 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Parish with Fr. Eric Olson officiating. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
