Joseph "Joe" M. Kirschner, 95, Spalding, passed away on Friday March 16, 2012 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers. He was born on January 22, 1917 in Powers, MI, the son of the late Joseph and Barbara (Betsheck) Kirschner. On November 2, 1942 he married the former Ann Catherine Nolde and she preceded him in death on August 7, 2009.

Joe enjoyed many outdoor activities which included 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, gardening and working in the sugar bush with his family and friends. In his younger years, Joe was a logger and a farmer. He retired after 55 years as a heavy equipment mechanic and had worked for various contractors including Bridges Co. and Streits Construction. He was also a retired member of the Operating Engineers Local 324.

Joe is survived by four daughters: Joann (Ron) Labelle, Marilyn (Bill) Kleikamp, Linda Lynch all of Powers and Carlyn (Jim) Lynch of Cedar River, two sons: Ken (Pam) Kirschner and Joseph R (Teri) Kirschner both of Powers, seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son: Keith Kirschner, son-in-law: Peter Lynch, one grandson: Christian Arthur Lynch, one sister: Anne Karl and four brothers: Albert, Henry, John and William Kirschner.

Friends may call from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (CST) on Friday March 23, 2012 at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the church with Fr. Michael Vichich officiating. A luncheon will follow Mass in the church parish hall. Burial will take place in the Spalding Township Cemetery.
