Luella Bell (Lauscher) Murray

         Luella  Bell (Lauscher) Murray, from Spalding, MI, age 96 passed away peacefully on September 17, 2015.  Luella was born in Oro, MI on December 7, 1918.  She was the daughter of Frank and Emma (Kostichka) Lauscher. She lived her early life in Oro, moving to Powers in 1922, and attended Powers-Spalding High School.  She lived a short while in Milwaukee in her youth.
 
          In 1938, Luella married Murray of Spalding, Michigan and they settled in Spalding where they raised their six children and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Luella was a well respected and active member of the community, including nine years as the Secretary for St. Anne Society, the Community Action Board for the Aging for 18 years, and 5 years as a volunteer den leader for the Cub Scouts.  She was also a member of the Senior Center Board in Hermansville, the Spalding Township Treasurer for 9 years, and was employed by the North Central School Lunch program for over 10 years. Luella loved her family gatherings throughout the year.  She loved to bake, and became extremely adept at cooking in bulk for her husband and 6 very active boys.  She enjoyed being around people, especially her grandchildren, her numerous relatives and her church friends.  She always had a smile for someone.  She enjoyed travelling around the USA and Europe with her sons.  A particular highlight was a visit to her family homestead in Ceske Budejovice in the Czech Republic, and a visit to the Vatican to see Pope Benedict.  She also enjoyed crafts including sewing, making posters as a young girl for her father’s band, where she played as well.  Her hobbies included sheep head, which she rarely lost at, bingo, cribbage and reading. She was an active member of St. John Newman in Spalding for over 75 years.
  
          Luella is survived by her children, Donald Murray (Joan), Roger Murray (Joan), Joe Murray (Barb), Bill Murray (Sharon), and Ken Murray (Connie); Lester's wife Verna and their children; over 100 grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, first and second cousins and good friends
 
          She was preceded in death by husband Ernest Murray, her son Terry, mother and father Frank and Emma Lauscher, brothers; Lester, Leroy Lavern and Leo Lauscher. 
 
          Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday September 22, 2015 at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding with a time of remembrance at 3:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday at the church with Fr. Michael Vichich officiating. Burial will follow Mass in the Spalding Township Cemetery. A luncheon will be served in the church parish hall.
 
          A memorial has yet to be determined.
