Ralph H. Sarnowski

Ralph H. Sarnowski, 87, Escanaba, passed away on Sunday August 29, 2010 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility. He was born on January 14, 1923 to the late Anton and Anna (Beliot) Sarnowski in Milwaukee, WI. On December 1, 1945 he married the former Jean Moras at St. Joseph's Church in Escanaba and she preceded him in death in 2005.
Ralph served his country in the U.S. Army and is a WWII veteran. He recieved a Purple Heart medal along with different medals he earned during his time in the Army. Ralph was employed for over 38 years at the Chicago Northwestern Railroad where he retired from in 1984. He was a member of the Escanaba Elks Lodge #354, Order of the Purple Heart and the Highland Golf Club and was also an avid Eskimo football fan attending as many games as he could. Ralph enjoyed walking, spending time at the cottage and time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed his winters in Gulf Shores, AL for over 20 years.
Ralph is survived by his seven children: Ralph (Janet) Sarnowski, Susan (Ron) Wiesman, Roger (Jane) Sarnowski, Paul (Janell) Sarnowski, Tom Sarnowski, John (Mary) Sarnowski and Mary Lee Sarnowski, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister: Grace.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 1, 2010 at Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Escanaba with the Delta County Veterans Council and the Order of the Purple Heart military rites at 5:45 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Ralph Sarnowski's life will follow visitation at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Allo Coolman Funeral Home with Deacon Terry Saunders officiating. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, MI.
A memorial in Ralph Sarnowski's name will be established and donations may be made out in his name.
