Robert "Bob" J. Gagne
Robert "Bob" J. Gagne, 88, Spalding, passed away on Sunday November 19, 2017 at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 17, 1929 in Powers, MI, the son of the late Mose and Alma (Murray) Gagne. On April 30, 1955 he married the former Gail Langley at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2006.
Bob attended school in Powers until his family needed him on the farm. He later worked for a few years at a pallet factory in Menominee and then worked at Pine Timber Lumber as a lumber grader. Bob was then drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he earned Sergeant rank in communications. After serving in the military, he worked for Chicago & NW Railroad for 10 years, then joined the Electricians Union IBEW where he worked until his retirement after 36 years. During retirement, Bob enjoyed being a "handyman" for anyone who needed him in the area. He was also an excellent woodworker and carpenter who could make or fix anything.
He is survived by two children: Cheryl (Bruce) Blair and Blaine (Julie) Gagne, five brothers: Albert (Evelyn), Alfred, Fred (Carol), Ken (Lorna) and Gary (Julie) Gagne, four sisters: Dorothy (Richard) Hughson, Maryann Forcey, Betty (Bill) Arvon and Joyce (David) Vandermissen, six grandchildren: Jeremy, Stacey, Tyler, Kasey, Kylie and Parker, ten great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister: Lorraine Pragacz.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Saturday November 25, 2017 at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding with Tony Revord American Legion Post #244 rites at 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Saturday at church with Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Burial will follow Mass in the Spalding Township Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the church parish hall.
