Robert "Bob" W. Schwalbach
, 85, Escanaba, passed away on Sunday April 10, 2011at Marquette General Hospital following a brief illness with his loving family by his side. He was born in Escanaba, the son of the late John and Edith (Peterson) Schwalbach. He married the former and late Rosemary Lemire at St. Peter's Cathedral in Marquette.

Upon graduating from Escanaba High School, Bob was a featured ice skater in the Escanaba Ice shows. He loved ice skating and performing and as a result was hired by the Ship Stead & Johnson Ice Capades where he skated professionally for two years until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Following his time in the service, Bob attended Layton Art School in Milwaukee for Interior Design. After design school, he moved back to Escanaba and opened the Bay Interiors & Drapery Shop with his brother Dick and later sold his business to the Carpet & Drapery Shop where he continued to work until his retirement.

Bob is survived by three brothers: Tom (Kay) Schwalbach, Jack (Ione) Schwalbach and Ken (Barb) Schwalbach, three step-children: Barb (Don) Pfotenhauer, Don (Gray) Lemire and Susan Lemire, six step-grandchildren, his good friend: John at Christian Park Healthcare Center where Bob resided for the past nine months, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers: Dick and Jim Schwalbach and one sister: Helen Enna.

Friends may call from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday April 14, 2011 at Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Escanaba with the Delta County Veterans Council Rites at 4:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Fr. Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will follow Mass in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring.

His family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and caregivers at Christian Park Healthcare Center for all their compassion shown to Bob.
