Viola "Vi" M. Beecher

Viola "Vi" M. Beecher, 94, Escanaba, formerly of Munising, passed away on Friday June 3, 2016 at Marquette General Hospital. She was born on May 21, 1922 in Munising, MI, the daughter of the late Finnish immigrant parents: Charles and Amanda (Koivenenta) Maki. In 1954 she married the late William Beecher.
Vi graduated from Mather High School and worked at the Red Owl store in Munising. She later moved to Belleville, MI and worked in the General Motors auto plant until her retirement. Vi was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Union. After her retirement, she moved to the Gaylord, MI area where she lived for several years before moving to Florida. In 2010 she moved to Escanaba where she was a resident at Northwoods Assisted Living.
She is survived by her sister: Sylvia Morrison, six nieces and nephews: James (Carol) Morrison, Theodore (Darlene) Morrison, Ruth Ann "Susie" Harvey, Stephen (Lynn) Morrison, David (Delight) Morrison and Gregory (Valerie) Morrison, two step-sons: Richard and Robert Beecher, as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers: William and Theodore Maki, a brother-in-law: Ralph Morrison, a nephew-in-law: Bernard Harvey and a lifelong friend: Ingrid (Baij) O'Connor.
In keeping with Viola's wishes, there will be a private graveside service in Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
