Dorothy Mae Kleiman, 91, Escanaba, passed away peacefully on Friday April 14, 2017 at her residence in the Bishop Noa Home. She was born on May 4, 1925 in Escanaba, the daughter of the late William and Barbara (Lang) Eis. In 1948 she married the late Clarence "Hunce" Kleiman in Escanaba.
Dorothy graduated in 1943 from Escanaba High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was also the class president her sophomore, junior and senior years and received a Women's Club Nursing scholarship. Dorothy then attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Evanston, IL, (associated with Loyola University), and then did a 6 month training program in Topeka, KS at Winter General Hospital as a cadet nurse, graduating with an RN degree in 1946. Upon her graduation, she returned to Escanaba and was employed at St. Francis Hospital as an RN for 26 years, and then worked as office nurse for Dr. Francis Anderson. She retired to Mountain Home, AK residing there for 20 years where she made many wonderful friends.
Dorothy returned to Escanaba in 2000. She enjoyed seeing her old friends, going to a monthly luncheon with members of the class of 1943, reading, golfing, cooking, gardening and playing bridge with her friends and spending time with her family. She was also a member of the Escanaba Country Club and Bay Sages.
She is survived by two sons: Gary (Cheryl) Kleiman of Sarasota, FL and Bob (Jane) Kleiman of Gladstone, a daughter-in-law: Cindy Kleiman, six grandchildren: Lauren, Kevin, Drew, Steve, Scott and Kyle, four great-grandchildren: Hudson, Crusoe, Rowan and Maya, as well as nieces and nephews and special friends: Lois Nelson and Pat McGinn.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons: Steve and Don Kleiman, a sister: Marguerite Warner, four brothers: Robert, William, Ray and Richard Eis and a granddaughter: Liana Kleiman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday April 18, 2017 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church with Fr. Eric Olson officiating. A luncheon will follow Mass in the church parish hall. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Her family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Sr. Rosalie and all the staff at Bishop Noa Home for all their care shown to Dorothy.

"This is hard for me to do. We were friends for over 60 years and had very much in common. We were both born in May, received the same scholarship and I took her place as surgical nurse at OSF when she retired to have her family. I am sending a card with several pictures for you to have. "My Aunt Dots was a very special grand lady! Dots was in nurses training when we lived in the Chicago area. She spent many wonderful weekends with us in those years. Ten years later I followed in her footsteps and graduated from St Francis school of nursing. When she and Hunce moved next door to her sister Marguerute (my Mom) in Arkansas we got to spend many special times together. So truly sorry for the loss."
