Date of Death: June, 04 2020

George R. LaCoursier, 91, Powers, passed away on Thursday June 4, 2020 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers. He was born March 29, 1929 , son of the late Delore and Victoria (Ayotte) LaCoursier in Hermansville, Michigan. George married Harriet Demsky in 1950 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding and Harriet predeceased George in 2012.

George served four years in the United States Air Force in Military Intelligence during the Korean War. He was a City of Detroit policeman for 26 years and retired as Sergeant in 1980. During his tenure with the Detroit Police Department George was a member of the infamous team of enforcers known as "The Big Four”. George was an avid outdoorsman and his favorite past time was “running” his beagle hounds. Under the banner of Little Cedar River Beagles, George bred, raised and professionally trained beagle hounds to “run” rabbits. His hounds were renowned nationally and internationally. At one point, George had as many as forty beagles in his kennel. George was extremely proud of the four Field Champions he produced in this, his second career. George was past Secretary and President of Bay de Noc Beagle Club. He contributed many articles over the years to the national publications of Better Beagling and Hounds and Hunting.

George is survived by his daughter: Sherry (Elwood) Winn; and two siblings, brother: Allan (Betty) and sister: Karen Howd.

At this time services will be private for the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding with Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife: Harriet in the Spalding Township Cemetery.

  • "First we are sorry for your loss. We are members of the Bay de Noc Beagle. We first met George when he first started coming to our field trials. Along with having good dogs he was always one of the best dressed beaglers at the trial. We would joke that when he came out of the bush he was spotless and we were up to our knees in mud. He was always a gentlemen and like to laugh. Over the years we would meet at Elmer's or Walmart and a quick hello George would turn into an hour of talking about the old trial days. We are still active with the field trials and George is still remembered in the stories we always come around to telling. Please know that he will be remembered in the beagle community. "

  • "Sherry I’m so sorry for the loss of your father. Him and I spent many hours running our beagles and going to Field trials together. I also used to care for his beagles when he and your mother went to visit you. I moved away in 1995 and moved back in 2007. I’d run into him at the Sidetrack and casino and had nice talks. I will always remember your Dad. Dennis Gustafson "
