Mary Margaret Aittama
Date of Death: April, 19 2021

Mary (Heide) Aittama, 87 of Escanaba, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday April 19, 2021 with her family by her side.
Mary was born in Lake Linden, MI on January 24, 1934 to the late Charles and Martha (Koski) Heide.  The oldest of the six Heide children, she spent her early years helping raise her younger siblings. She later worked as a nurse in the Copper Country.
She married Albert Aittama in 1968. After moving around a bit, they settled their family in Escanaba in 1980. When their children were grown, they operated a daycare out of their home and shared in the lives of many more families. Mary and Al could often be seen around town on their daily 4 mile walk.
Mary was a humble and genuine servant of the Lord.  She enjoyed her family and friends and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Escanaba.  She especially loved her time spent with her grandchildren and the kids in the daycare.
She is survived by children; Heide (Nathan Kobasic) Aittama, Gretchen (Rick) Henderson, Bert (Lori Gieryk) Aittama, and Mary (Joe) Bower: Grandchildren, Samantha, Tess, Hailey, Drake, Maggie Henderson; Josie, Jackson, Mason, and Christina Bower. Sister Carol and brothers Gerald, Richard and Charles.
Mary was preceded in death by husband Albert, Parents Martha and Charles, and sister Claire.
A private family celebration of Mary's life will be held on Friday April 23, 2021 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ryan Low Edwardson officiating. Burial will follow services in the Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name and a memorial will be decided by her family.
The Allo Coolman Funeral Homes are assisting the Aittama family.
