Robert G. Southerland, 86, Hermansville, passed away on Friday November 9, 2012 at his home in Hermansville. He was born on May 18, 1926 to the late Irwin and Irene (Gereau) Sutherland in Hermansville. On November 27, 1945 he married the former Dorothy Betters in Kentucky.

Mr. Southerland served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. Later he worked as a detective on the Kenosha, WI Sheriff's Department for 12 years. After returning to Hermansville, he purchased and operated the I.G.A. store. 31 years ago, Bob and Dorothy started serving with The Mission of the Holy Spirit. Their work has been primarily caring for the poor in Mexico.

Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, two children: Starlit A. Ernst and Donald R. (Diane) Sutherland, two sisters: Iva (Walter) Love and Genieve (Leroy) Floriano, one sister-in-law: Betty Sutherland, four grandchildren: Brian R. (Lisa) Ernst, Brenda M. (Thomas) Meyer, Amy (Steve) Dacus and Michael Sutherland, thirteen great-grandchildren: Brendin, Camerin, Christian, Sebastian, Randi, Kirk, Angelica, Starlit, Thomas, Connor, Nolan, Kimberly and Aaron and one great great-granddaughter: Hadleigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Irwin Sutherland Jr. and William Sutherland and three sisters: Myrtle Freese, Elaine Gardipee and Grace Hayes.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday November 13, 2012 at St. John Neumann Church in Hermansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following Mass at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at church with Fr. Michael Vichich officiating and Fr. Emmett Norden concelebrating. A luncheon will be held in the church parish hall. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
